German for 'move over, please'
We suppose that, if you’re used to
creating 800bhp versions of Ferrari Enzos
, a Mercedes C63 AMG does seem a bit tame.
Even so, Edo Competition’s assertion that ‘457 horsepower and 442lb ft are not enough’ does seem a mite churlish given that the Mercedes super-saloon will do 0-62mph in 4.5sec in standard form.
Not that we’re complaining; if it means that the world is given a version of the C63 with 555hp and 501lb ft of torque, we are very happy PHers. And that’s just what has happened. These pics are Edo’s official snaps of its newly tweaked C63 AMG.
To get the near-100hp increase, Edo has fiddled with the ECU, installed new air filters, and fitted a full performance exhaust system that includes high-flow cats and headers.
The cleverest aspect of the package, however, is the butterfly valve set-up in the exhaust. The back-pressure in the exhaust is monitored in real time and the 70mm flaps can be programmed to open at a predetermined back-pressure, maximising both low-end torque and top-end power.
Of course, if you want a seriously fast Merc C-class, Brabus can sell you its Bullit, which has 720bhp and 974lb ft of torque. But the Brabus Bullit does cheat a bit, because under the bonnet is a twin-turbo 6.2-litre V12. Oh, and it costs 346,000 euros…
