9FF GT9-R CONVERTIBLE

German tuner reveals the world's fastest open-topped, road-legal rendering

Power-obsessed German tuner 9ff is taking orders on a speedster-esque version of the truly bonkers 9ff GT9R, despite the fact that nothing more than an artist's sketch has been revealed.

The coupe version is touted by 9ff as 'the world's fastest street-legal car', and if we believe their statistics, 2.8 seconds to 60mph and an aeroplane-like 257mph are on tap.

If the cabrio follows its carbon-lidded sibling below the roofline, it'll get the same outrageously tuned version of Porsche's 4.0-litre flat six, mid-mounted and using massive twin-turbos to produce 1120bhp, along with 774 lb ft of torque.

Of course it the open version gets any sort of folding roof mechanism and/or extra stiffening, it's likely to weigh a little more than the 1326kg coupe - but with that sort of power we can't see it being too much of a problem.

An eagle-eyed web surfer spotted the artist's rendering of the car on 9ff's new website for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and shortly afterwards a message appeared on the site stating 'Fastest Car in the World - 257 MPH - Now available as Coupe OR Convertible'.

Unfortunately, at present that is the entire extent of the detail, and for now the car appears to only be available in the UAE. We'll keep an eye out, and keep you posted...
