We always knew Nissan's 350Z could handle a bit more power, and Project Zed owner/driver John Bradshaw is obviously in agreement.
Project Zed is a gorgeously shark-tastic Pro Class drag car packing a 3.5 litre Nissan V6 engine from the regular 350Z model with a few 'light modifications' taking the power to a knee-trembling 1900bhp. The result is an estimated 0-60mph time of 1.2secs, 0-168mph in 4.1secs, and 0-215mph in 6.6secs. We're guessing that requires more than a flash re-map and a sports exhaust...
The car has been built to tackle European dragstrip records, according to the owner, who says Project Zed is ready for testing now in readiness for a performance at the FIA European Finals at Santa Pod on September 10th-13th.
The mighty 350Z will be the only Japanese-engined car competing against the more traditional American V8 muscle this year, and is apparently the first ever Pro Class 350Z to be seen in Europe.
It will run in various classes including Super Pro ET, the unnervingly named Competitor Eliminator and HKS Series - Pro Class, categories which we're ashamed to say are gobbledegook to us. Perhaps a trip to the 'Pod should be on the PH agenda, too!
Meanwhile the video below gives you an idea of the level of engineering and technology that goes into top-flight drag cars like this - we nicked it off the team website, so pay them a visit if you want to find out more.
