These are the very first official images of the new Ferrari 458 Italia on the road.
The new car, seen here undergoing the classic 'dab of oppo' test at Ferrari's Fiorano handling circuit, should be seriously quick on the tarmac as well as looking stunning. Its direct-injection 4498cc V8 pushes out 562bhp at 9000rpm and 398lb ft at 6000rpm, so should be good for a 200mph top speed and 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds.
The company has also revealed a little more about the Italia's interior. Ferrari says that its new steering wheel and instrument binnacle has been inspired by F1 experience and represents 'a significant step forward in the concept of the ergonomic interface between driver and car'.
The most frequently used controls are now grouped on the steering wheel, while less regularly used controls are housed in two satellite 'pods' either side of the steering wheel. Ferrari says that this allows a driver to concentrate more fully on the road, and allows a greater level of control in high-performance driving.
