Rumours are circulating suggesting that Volkswagen plans to take an unspecified-sized stake in Suzuki Motors by the end of the year.
The idea of bringing together the two firms has been floating around for a while now. Just last week VW's chief executive Martin Winterkorn stated that Suzuki's competency in small cars would make them an "interesting partner".
German industry publication Automobilwoche now claims to have found further confirmation from an anonymous Suzuki executive who spilled the beans to them at Frankfurt last week. The source revealed that they "expect that there will be a basic agreement this year".
Echoing Martin Winterkorn's sentiments, Suzuki's leaky tap highlighted the compatibility of the two companies: "For Suzuki and VW this connection would be a win-win situation. Suzuki would have access to a variety of VW's technology, while Volkswagen would have a solid supporting leg in India and Southeast Asia."
After the 'who owns whom' battles earlier this year with Porsche, this latest move seems to highlight a resurgent Volkswagen. Of course, with no official announcements or plans as of yet, any suggestions on the potential fruits of such a deal would be purely speculative.
