THE ONUK SAZAN - A SPORTS CAR FROM TURKEY

Turkish sports car offers 500+ bhp - for a price

A Turkish sports car?...
A Turkish sports car?...
This is the Onuk Sazan and, should you have 300,000 euros (£270,000) to hand and the inclination to buy a Turkish sports car, this automotive curiosity could be yours.

It's been designed and built by a chap called Dr Onuk, and features a turbocharged VQ-series Nissan V6 with around 450bhp or, for the slightly more brave, an LS7 GM V8 with 512hp and 480lb ft of torque.

All that power is fed to the rear wheels and drives a car weighing 900kg (closer to 1000kg in the LS7 version, so should provide fairly spectacular performance (although we have no performance data).

...Yep - Turkey made one in the 1970s, too

All in all it seems (on paper at least) to be an impressive - if somewhat expensive - effort for a nation that to date has only produced one other sports car, the Datsun 240Z-esque, 1600cc Ford-powered Anadol STC-16 of the 1970s (pictured right).

There is one other rather touching side to the Sazan story - just as the 246 Dino was named after Enzo Ferrari's son, the Sazan is named after Dr Onuk's late son Kaan, who died in a car accident. Sazan is a nickname for Kaan.
