Coventry-based Climax Sports Cars has revealed the production version of its Climax Sports Racer - a car that aims to rival the Caparo T1 and Ariel Atom V8.
But although the Ford V8-powered car will undercut the Atom V8 by around £30k, its £92,000 price tag is some way north of the £35k figure that was envisaged when we first revealed the Climax - in concept form - back in July 2006.
The project, which was the brainchild of three Coventry University automotive design students, was originally planned as a 50-unit per year production prospect, but that has now been changed to a limited run of 200 units.
The 4.6-litre racing Ford V8 pumps out 345bhp and 305lb ft of torque, although a supercharged version will also be available as an option.
Extensive use of aluminium in the chassis and bodwork keeps the weight down to just over 900kg, giving the Climax Sports Racer a power-to-weight ratio that betters a 430 Scuderia.
