It's not just salt supplies the Highways Agency appears to be struggling with in the cold snap, they're apparently short of internet capacity, too.
In one of those 'wrong type of snow' incidents the UK does so well, visitors (at the time of writing) to the
Highways Agency Traffic England site
are being let down because too many people want to find out how the weather is affecting road conditions. Go figure!
"Check traffic conditions before you travel," the Highways Agency bravely proclaims at the top of the website and, to be fair, we often do just that.
Unfortunately today, just when we need it most, we've discovered the service has been disabled.
"To meet the current high demand, we have switched to a lighter version of the site. The main difference is that the map has been disabled. For live traffic information visit the Traffic Flows and Disruptions Search sections," is the Highways Agency excuse.
"Please accept our apologies for the disruption to service and be assured that we will re-instate the full service at the earliest opportunity."
