2007 Superleggera was the last lightweight Gallardo
A brand-new lightweight Lamborghini Gallardo is headed for the Geneva motor show in March, according to reports from the blogosphere.
The new car is likely to be called the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera LP570-4, although the 'SV' moniker is also in the running according to some. As the name(s) implies, there will be a 10hp increase in power, bringing the V10's total output to 562bhp.
As with the previous Superleggera from 2007, the new car will be a four-wheel drive, lightweight special. Lamborghini has apparently stripped 70kg from the kerb weight, so expect the new car to be a touch quicker than the LP560-4. The 0-62mph sprint is said to be dealt with in 3.5secs, making the Superleggera two tenths of a second quicker than the LP560.
Like the 'regular' LP560-4, the Superleggera will be available with either a six-speed manual or Lamborghini's eGear automated manual paddleshift transmission.
To help beef-up the visuals, the new Superleggera will get a chunkier front spoiler, and a small rear wing. Depending on which name eventually surfaces - Superleggera or SV - you can expect some semi-lairy body graphics, too.
Lamborghini won't officially admit the existence of the new car as yet, and no official pics or details have been released, but no doubt concrete details on the new car will surface before the Geneva show - so watch this space...
