A top-dollar (er - Euro) auction in Monaco is to feature a bevy of rare and exotic classics, including five very special Ferraris. The cars all come from a private collection of an anonymous owner, in an auction scheduled to coincide with the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
Without doubt the star of the show is a Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France (pictured top right). The car was first sold in America in 1958, and has apparently only covered 17,500 kilometres (10,874 miles) since. RM Auctions have given the car an estimate of 2 - 2.5 million Euros (£1.7m - £2.2m).
The next priciest (estimated) lot also hails from America. This stunning long-nose 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB is valued at 700,000 - 900,000 Euros (£609k - £784k). There is also a 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Vignale Berlinetta in ultra-rare 'Tuboscocca' competition guise, estimated at 600,000 - 800,000 Euros (£522k - £697k), a 250 Europa Pinin Farina Coupe originally used to launch the car at the Paris Motor Show in 1954, valued at 450,000 - 700,000 Euros (£392k - £609k), and finally a concourse quality 1971 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder, estimated at 600,000 - 800,000 Euros (£522k - £697k).
A poke around RM Auction's website reveals some other interesting lots going under the hammer at this megabucks auction. Some vintage Rolls Royces including a 1920 Silver Ghost Coupe de Ville and a 1934 Phantom II Continental Cabriolet are seeking new owners, and there's also an incredibly rare and beautiful 1938 Delahaye 135 MS Competition Cabriolet that this hack would consider trading non-essential organs for.
The Sporting Classics of Monaco Sale takes place on 1st May this year at the swish Grimaldi Forum conference centre in Monaco. But as even the auction catalogue will set you back 70 Euros (£61), we're content with a browse around the auction website for the time being. At least until the Shed of the Week fund passes the £1m mark...
