Alfa Romeo will launch its new Giulietta in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, but this new teaser video gives a good idea of what we're going to be getting.
Mainstream versions of the new VW Golf-rivalling five-door will be unveiled in the metal at the Geneva show in March, and a hot 230bhp Cloverleaf version is in the works too although we don't expect to see that until 2011.
According to the teaser video voice-over - which sounds as if it was recorded by an actor moonlighting from his day job making nuisance phone calls to Italian housewives - the new Giulietta provides both a spacious boot and class-leading comfort, although a high performance engine and dynamic lines get a mention too.
He claims to be every driver's 'Alfa ego', but we can't think of many Alfa enthusiasts who've bought into the Italian brand for its luggage space or comfort.
Either way, with engines ranging from a 120bhp 1.4 litre petrol to a 170bhp 2.0 litre diesel available from launch, in a car that's bigger, taller and heavier than the 147 it replaces, we look forward to finding out whether the new Giulietta lives up to the promise of its famous name.
There's a new suspension set-up with MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear which sounds promising, so hopefully - with the 230bhp Cloverleaf at least - Alfa will have found some form.
Meanwhile, here's a picture of an original Alfa Romeo Giulietta Berlina introduced in 1955 - Mamma Mia!
