Volvo's all new S60 saloon line-up will be topped by an exciting 304bhp, 3.0-litre T6 version, promising a 0-62mph time of 6.5seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
Currently Volvo is only offering two other engines on the new model revealed at Geneva today, namely two T5 diesels with 205bhp and 163bhp respectively. An eco-friendly 115bhp, 115g/km DRIVe variant is also promised during the first year of production.
Volvo believes that this is the most sporting S60 yet, and to that end has fiddled with the steering ratio to make it a bit faster and given the car stiffer suspension.
Tech wise the new S60 is packed to the rafters with new toys. There's a new wheel-braked version of 'torque vectoring' which forms part of the stability control system, a slicker version of the FOUR-C active-damper chassis control system and a new traction control system.
A fair few safety gizmos are tucked in there too. The Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake is by far the most impressive. At speeds up to 22mph it can 'see' pedestrians (in a 'Terminator' style), and should one walk out in front of the car without looking (which they never do, pedestrians always look) the car will auto brake and hopefully save the innocent walker from a nasty fate.
Inside, the new S60 is still rather Swedish, though we do like the centre console canted towards the driver. The S60 will land this year, but UK prices and specs have yet to be released.
