The XKR is showing off a few new tricks at Geneva, with 'Black' and 'Speed' packs offering an enticing new way to enjoy the sportiest of Jags.
The Speed pack does exactly what it says in the brochure, and makes the XKR go faster. 19mph faster, to be exact. The supercharged V8's 503bhp is unchanged, but the electronic speed limiter has been removed, the ECU has undergone some tinkering, and the gearbox has been recalibrated allowing the car to top out at 174mph.
To help the XKR Speed (didn't Bentley use that name already?) look the part, some visual changes have been made. There's a bigger front splitter and rear spoiler, the sills and rear diffuser are body coloured, there are red 'R' brake callipers, chrome window surrounds and mesh grilles.
The Active Differential Control (ADC) has been fiddled with too, apparently desensitising the steering at the higher speeds now attainable.
... as new XJ shares the limelight
Jaguar offers Speed Pack XKR owners seven colour choices: Ultimate Black, Polaris White, Salsa Red, Liquid Silver, Lunar Grey, Kyanite Blue and Spectrum Blue.
Meanwhile, the Black Pack is a styling-only package for the XKR Speed - thoughtfully displayed on a white car here at Geneva, presumably just to confuse us. You get a host of gloss black detailing, the option of three different colours (Ultimate Black, Polaris White and Salsa Red) and there's an optional 'XKR' graphic for the side of your car - which we quite like, even though we probably shouldn't, which is presumably why the show car doesn't have it...
Black Pack XKRs are trimmed in Charcoal leather with a choice of three finishes on offer: Dark Oak, Dark Mesh Aluminium and Piano Black. It's all very dark.
The Speed pack will set you back £3,500 while the Black pack is £4,000.
