Koenigsegg has let slip these images of its latest hypercar ahead of the Geneva motor show, which begins this week.
Much as you can generally rely on Volvo to produce a dull but sensible machine, and Saab to come up with something, well, based on GM running gear, Sweden's 'other' car maker can usually be relied upon to produce something ever more outrageous with each new variant.
This time, Koengisegg is calling its insane creation the Agera, and it's been created as a successor to the CCX, which was itself revealed at the Geneva show back in 2006. The Agera uses the same bespoke 4.7-litre twin-supercharged V8 engine as the CCX, but power is up 92bhp to a mammoth 898bhp at 6850rpm, while torque spirals from 678lb ft to a driveshaft-straining 811lb ft at 5100rpm and runs to the rear wheels via a paddle-shift gearbox and limited-slip differential.
Combine this with a modest kerbweight of 1290kg (the carbon/aluminium honeycomb chassis weighs just 72kg), and Koenigsegg reckons we'll be looking at 0-62mph in 3.1secs, 0-124mph in 8.9secs, and a top speed of 245+mph. Gulp, etc...
Although Koenigsegg is spinning this as an all-new car, visually the Agera owes more than a bit to the CCX - in fact its dimensions are identical. The main styling tweaks are a softer-looking nose, LED daytime running lights (what else?) and restyled tail lights. Inside, the centre console has been redesigned with heavy (or should that be light?) use of carbon fibre.
Koenigsegg will be taking orders from the show (though no prices have been revealed as yet), while the Agera will take another six months of development before the first customers get their cars.
