Saab's all-new 9-5 might look quite an attractive proposition if you're in the £26,495 to £37,995 price bracket - and if you agree you can order one today.
Those hot-off-the-press prices are for the entry-level 2.0TiD diesel 160PS and the top-of-the-range 2.8T 300PS petrol Aero model respectively, with various options in-between. Deliveries won't start until the summer, but you can put your name down at your friendly local Saab dealer with immediate effect.
Of course we've not driven the new model yet, which means we're taking it on trust the car's a good 'un. (It also means that if you order one out of a wholly admirable sense of public duty to save Saab for future generations, you can't blame us if it turns out to be a spudder!)
Either way, the car certainly makes a suitably 'different' design statement, and you'll have plenty of toys to play with as the range of high-tech features on offer includes: an aircraft inspired head-up information display (HUD), adaptive headlights (Bi-xenon Smart Beam), MP3/iPod integration, Harman Kardon audio system, DAB radio, adaptive cruise control, DriveSense adaptive chassis with continuous damping control, keyless entry and starting, dual-zone climate control, adaptive parking assistance, and XWD with electronic LSD.
It was a big day on Monday for Saab at their Trollhattan factory, as production restarted after a seven week closure while the Spyker takeover from GM was completed.
First on the line, appropriately enough, was an all-new Saab 9-5 saloon destined to join the company test fleet prior to the model's official launch. Further down the line was a Saab Convertible, now also being produced in Trollhättan as part of the concentration of Saab operations in Sweden. With the introduction of the new 9-5 SportWagon next year, a total of five model lines will be produced at the plant, they say.
