A rather cheeky vendor has caught Shed's eye this week. "Could it be shed of the week?" says the seller of this Alfa Romeo 90 Gold Cloverleaf. Well, despite wrestling with the nation's classifieds in an attempt to not give him the satisfaction, we have to say that yes, this utterly intriguing Alfa has made it as today's SOTW.
The Alfa 90 is perhaps not the world's prettiest saloon - we reckon it lacks the taut 1970s elegance of the Alfetta it replaced - but Nuccio Bertone's lines lend a blocky 1980s video game-style chunkiness to the 90 that's rather appealing.
Beneath the skin the 90 shared much in common with its predecessor, including its correct-wheel drive, floorpan, suspension set-up and 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre twin-cam fours, while V6 versions such as this took the 2.5-litre V6 also seen in the GTV6 coupe and big Alfa 6 saloon.
The 90 being a child of the mid-80s, there were also naturally some gimmicky pseudo hi-tech touches sprinkled over it. These included a mobile front chin spoiler powered by gas-filled dampers, which dropped progressively as you moved above 50mph to help reduce frontal lift.
This Gold Cloverleaf version also got a natty digital speedo and trip computer (wonder how many of those worked for more than, ooh, a fortnight) along with its chunky foglit front bumper and 154bhp V6 (good for 0-62mph in 8.5secs and a 126mph top speed).
It's a rare beast these days, too - according to the seller there are only six registered in the UK, and this is apparently one of two with an MOT. Or it will be until 5 July, when the ticket on it runs out.
It might not be the work of a moment to renew it, either - as the seller admits the front jacking points will need attention, as will the hazard warning lights (but what's a 1980s Alfa without flaky electrics?).
Other than that this looks like a nice example of a near-extinct Alfa - although purist Alfisti might want to get it back on original wheels and chuck out the Koni adjustables. Still, for just three-quarters of a bag of sand you're not going to get a concours-ready car, are you?
