The first example of a new 'street-spec' version of the outrageous Wildcat off-road racer has left the factory with a spec that includes a custom-built compartment for its new owner's golf clubs.
The £75k-and-up Wildcat 300STR is powered by what its builder Qt Services calls a 'Dakar-spec' version of the 4.0 Rover V8 engine, built from original unused Thor engine blocks by engine supplier ACR. As installed Qt Services claim an output of 255bhp, and 260lb ft of peak torque for this entry-level engine which is good for a 0-60mph time of around six seconds. Maximum speed is usually around 120mph, depending on gearing.
The car pictured not only has the usual Wildcat features, including a fully welded tubular chassis, 4-wheel drive, 5-point harnesses, heavy duty differentials and drive-shafts - but also creature comforts such as air conditioning, bluetooth, iPod dock and stereo hi-fi.
"If you consider that the 300STR is essentially a two-seater, there are a number of options open to you and this first production 300STR has been specified with rear storage for the new owner's golf clubs. We'd love to be there when he rocks up to the clubhouse and parks it next to the Astons and Mercedes!" says the boss of Qt Services, Dave Marsh.
There are three Wildcat variants to choose from - the 300STR pictured here, the 400NSR which is a full competition model designed for hill rallies and tout terrain events and the top spec 500DKR which has the full rally raid package for serious and seasoned competitors. The two top models feature a specially-built 4.0 litre version of Jaguar's previous generation 4.2 litre V8 - with power outputs that start at 285bhp (plus 300lb ft, most of which is available at 1400rpm), or upwards depending largely on the depth of your pockets.
