New Rangie gets a 4.4 diesel option
The Range Rover is being upgraded for 2011 with a new class-leading diesel V8, and a top-of-the range Autobiography Black 40th Anniversary limited edition.
The supercharged petrol V8 is carried over unchanged, but the diesel option appears significantly more attractive with a 308hp 4.4 litre twin turbocharged V8 replacing the already effective 3.6 litre option available currently.
The new LR-TDV8 also benefits from the introduction of the new ZF 8HP70 8-speed auto transmission, which improves performance and economy. The result is a top speed of 130mph, a 7.5sec 0-60mph time, and an official 'combined' economy figure of an impressive 30.1mpg.
Revised model on sale in September
Other 2011 updates include a new Exterior Design Pack offering revised front bumper with fog lamp surrounds, front grille and vents in Titan finish, revised side sills, rear bumper and stainless exhaust finishers. Changes to the 'Terrain Response' system include Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control in case you forget to engage Hill Descent.
We're looking forward to getting a drive in the new Rangie soon, but meanwhile you might want to get your name down for one of the 40th Anniversary editions. Just 700 will be built featuring a Barolo Black paintjob, 20ins alloys unique front grille side, side vents, and badging. The interior features a couple of unique colourways - Jet and Ivory, or Jet and Pimento - and black veneered woodwork.
Sales of 2011 m/y versions will start late September this year, we're told, but there's no word yet on pricing.
