On Sunday 5 September the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea will be home to a spectacular collection of the finest Le Mans sportscars at the 2010 Chelsea AutoLegends display.
The 2010 event will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Porsche's first Le Mans win, and also the the filming of the epic Le Mans movie. The film will be shown on a big-screen, with many of the drivers involved in the making of the movie present to share their memories. Those already confirmed include five-time winner Derek Bell and Richard Attwood the man who actually won the 1970 race to give Porsche its maiden victory.
Chelsea Auto Legends will also showcase a huge number of mouth-watering exotica from both road and track, including Aston Martins, Bentleys, Bugattis, Ferraris, Jaguars, Maseratis and Porsches.
If you've got a classic, performance or supercars, you can also be part of the show. Register in advance at Chelsea Auto Legends website and you'll be able display your own cars in specially organised areas within the Royal Hospital Chelsea grounds.
"This is the start of something really special," says event founder Michael Scott, a Chelsea resident who has been organising smaller 'Rendezvous' gatherings for car enthusiasts in the Royal Hospital grounds.
"I've always dreamed of creating a spectacular annual automotive event in the fabulous setting of the Royal Hospital gardens to raise much-needed funds for the Chelsea pensioners - now that dream has become a reality. And what better way to fire up than with a superb homage to the world's greatest motor race and to Steve McQueen one of Hollywood's most revered heroes?"
Adult entrance tickets are £12 in advance and those aged 15 and under get in free if accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available from the Chelsea Auto Legends website.
