Maserati is set to create a baby brother for the Quattroporte saloon. The new sports saloon will sit below the XJ-sized Quattroporte, and will take on the upper reaches of the Mercedes E-Class, Jaguar XF and BMW 5-series ranges.
Details are scarce at the moment, but two versions are expected – one ‘basic’ version priced at around 55,000 euros and a high-performance version for 66,000 euros. Both will be powered by V8s, and the new car will go on sale some time in 2014.
The new ‘small’ saloon is likely to take its underpinnings from a shortened version of the chassis that will sit beneath the all-new Quattroporte, which is due in 2013.
The details of the new model were revealed as part of the Fiat group’s detailed 2010-2014 business plan, which was recently revealed to investors.
Maserati says it wants the new smaller saloon to take 10 percent of what it calls the ‘high-end E segment,’ while it hopes the new Quattroporte will be able to grab eight per cent of the luxury saloon segment.
