A few weeks before the Le Mans 24, we asked PHers to submit photos from the event that they felt 'best captured the spirit of Le Mans' and, sure enough, we received a lovely selection of photographs. And that meant choosing the winners was not an easy task.
But choose we did, and the five pictures chosen really do capture the spirit that makes the annual trip to the event a must for PHers. The winning picture seems to have it all: patriotism, racing, crowds and celebration. What it lacks in beers and partying is more than made up by the 'I wish I was there' feeling the picture instills in you. Well done to andyjb, who took this picture as the national anthem was playing.
Andy wins a VIP trip to the Autosport 1000km of Silverstone taking plce in September
Runners-up receive a collection of Le Mans yearbooks, starting with the 2005 edition and running through to 2009. In addition, they will receive a host of other Le Mans goodies too.
The first runner-up is buckeroodle with the classic 'brolly and TVR' shot - there is only one way to dodge a rain shower in Le Mans and it doesn't involve putting the roof up!
Another runner-up is stumpy67, who takes the tradition of a beer mountain to a new and artistic level. We're not sure how this was made, but it looks great and it must have been fun creating enough empties.
markmullen takes a bow for this fantastic night racing picture of the number 89 Ferrari. Le Mans is all about the night racing and this picture captures the moment perfectly.
Finally, Man-At-Arms gets a mention for another photo that did as we asked and captured that spirit of Le Mans that can't be found anywhere else. Where else would you find someone who would go to all this effort for a couple of nights on a make-shift campsite? Fantastic stuff.
Thanks to everyone who entered, enjoy your prizes and we'll see you at the 24 next year.
