Those with reasonable memories or fetishes for lawnmowers may remember
Project Runningblade
, the grass-clipper whose driver, Don Wales, officially became the world's fastest man on a motor mower in the summer with a run of 87.833mph.
Sadly, the former record holder Bob Cleveland and his team of sneaky Yanks have wrested the mower crown back from those plucky Brits at Runningblade.
Bob took his steed up to a two-way average of 96mph on 25th September at Bonneville salt flats in Utah, not quite breaking the 100mph barrier that Project Runningblade had also been tilting at, but comfortably outstripping the British team's best efforts.
And Bob's reaction to the experience? "The speed scared me so good..."
