Although Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Bond's Lotus Esprit remain the only truly desirable amphibious cars we've seen in action (well, sort of), we reckon Rick Dobbertin deserves a salty sailor's salute for
this spectacular effort
He's called it the HydroCar, one of those quaintly optimistic names that far-sighted/slightly bonkers amphi-enthusiasts tend to give to projects such as these. (Whatever happened to the Land Shark - anyone else remember that one?) The fact is, the HydroCar looks pretty far from being any use at all as a car, and (so-far) doesn't seem to work very well as a boat either.
Minor details both, because when it comes to amphibious vehicles, actually making them work never quite seems to be the point.
And as this one's got a race V8 shoving out nearly 800hp - and we've yet to try building an amphibian ourselves - any criticism from this end would be churlish!
