Note to BMW: Can you please make this...
The webosphere is currently abuzz with the possibility that BMW is looking into an estate version of the M3.
As far as internet rumours go, this is one of the most vague we’ve heard for a while, but it’s also one of the most potentially interesting, so we thought we’d share it with you.
The logic of the idea is pretty sound, too. Since the death of the E60 M5 Touring, BMW hasn’t had a truly rapid wagon on its price lists (a 335d doesn’t count in this context…), while Audi, Mercedes and even Cadillac are providing those who want them with some seriously rapid wagons.
According to some folks on the
US Bimmerfile
forum, BMW has been mulling the idea over for some time, and a prototype M3 Touring has existed since 2008.
So BMW may have been considering an M3 wagon for some time, but the idea hasn’t thus far morphed into a production reality, presumably because of the small volumes involved (BMW only shifted 1025 M5 Tourings). And even if it did happen, you’d probably have to cope with a hefty premium over an M3 coupe. Still, here’s hoping…
