This is the new MV Agusta F4 RR, which, says its maker, is the most advanced and powerful superbike in the world.
The key to the F4 RR is its new 1000cc short-stroke four-cylinder engine with a rather healthy 201hp, although MV Agusta does point out that light weight and exotic, hi-tech materials are a significant part of the new bike, too.
But back to that engine: the short stroke radial valve motor is entirely new and is (we're assured) inspired by the company's competition experience. There are a few elements shared with the old F4's engine, but beyond the engine case castings and the arrangement of cylinders, the new motor shares little with its predecessor.
A new low-inertia crankshaft and new bore and stroke dimensions (the piston diameter has been increased from 76mm to 79mm, while the stroke has been reduced from 55mm to 50.9mm) mean the new engine can rev to a pretty stratospheric 13,700rpm, while at the same time reducing the linear velocity of the piston and therefore improving engine reliability.
Other key tweaks to the engine include a new primary drive, new cylinder head, new large-diameter titanium intake and exhaust valves, new lightweight forged pistons in 'aerospace RR alloy', a new exhaust and variable-length intake runners
There's also a new close-ratio gearbox, while the chassis gets treated to multi-adjustable Ohlins dampers, with forged aluminium wheels shaving a kilo off the bike's weight.
