Next time you hear someone refer to a Caterham or Ariel Atom as a 'four-wheeled motorbike' show them this short video made by Red Bull. Moto GP rider Andrea Dovizioso at full lean on his Repsol Honda, shot at 1000 frames per second and his elbow only millimetres from the Tarmac.
Cars don't lean over in corners, even very fast ones made out of bits of tube that only weigh as much as a Merc S-Class door. Anyone who has ridden bikes knows that it's this leaning over bit that makes riding so special. And why bike racing is much more exciting to watch than cars. I went to my first bike GP in 1978 and since then I've been hooked.
Even a dull race, with Stoner way out in front like last weekend, is not a disaster because you can still sit back and marvel at the lean angles and the tyre technology. When you've watched the Dovi video there's another one with Stoner in it that's equally good. Now I want to see one with some slo-mo slides in it.
