Not a mid-engined Infiniti
There are intriguing goings-on at Infiniti, where PH spies confirm rumours of a mid-engined sports car being developed, and that a concept version could be unveiled for Geneva 2012.
The new car is the first sign that Infiniti is getting serious about boosting its performance credentials, unless you count the Sebastian Vettel-ised version of the FX50 S SUV that was unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show. Which we don't.
Our PH-branded mole also points out that the new mystery Infiniti will be the first mid-engined effort from the group since the aborted MID4 of 1985, provided you don't include production versions of the R390 Le Mans racer from the 90s.
We're also told that the car is being developed on a brand new platform (well it would have to be with the engine put there) and that it is comfortably Infiniti's most performance-focused offering yet. We hear, too, that it might well be a range-extender hybrid/electric vehicle. Well, you can't fight (eco) progress, we guess.
But will it form part of Infiniti and Red Bull's plans to create Red Bull-fettled road cars? That's one question we just can't answer yet...
