A British team aims to challenge for honours in the 2013 Dakar Rally, using a custom-built off-road racer that looks a lot like a Range Rover Evoque.
At least we think that's what they want to do, because the Excite Rallye Raid team has just issued this renderings of its would-be entry - attached to a long press release that makes no mention of either Range Rover or the Evoque.
It's a nice thought though, isn't it? Certainly much further up our street than Victoria Beckham, and an adventure such as this would certainly make us feel much more confident that the Evoque is a credible accessory in this 'real man's' world.*
Whatever the Excite racers look like when they're finished, underneath they've got a tubular spaceframe chassis with a rear mounted BMW straight six diesel making 275bhp.
The cars will be built by RaBe Race Cars, who can claim 15 years experience of desert racing, and have spent four years developing the car's specification.
(*Sigh. Yes, we know... but does anyone really mind if we pretend occasionally?)
