Mazda has revealed its final run-out special RX-8, of which it plans to build 1000 units before the car is finally axed in its home market in summer next year.
Called the RX-8 Spirit-R (in homage, we're told, to the final edition of the dear-departed Mazda RX-7) the car will be available in either six-speed manual or automatic forms and buyers will get unique badging, unique head- and taillights with black bezels and red brake calipers, while the interior is distinguished by special 'Spirit R' Recaros and piano black transmission tunnel trim.
Spirit Rs will also feature tweaked suspension, upgraded brakes and 18-inch gunmetal alloy wheels.
The new car will go on sale on 24 November, which still (just about) counts as the 20th anniversary of the Mazda 787b rotary-engined car's Le Mans victory.
After the Spirit-R, however, Mazda will no longer have a rotary-engined car for sale - nor any firm plans to build one in the immediate future - though it claims that "rotary engine development will continue".
