"Originally it started off as the 1984 rally sprint car at Donington. Various drivers drove it, Nigel Mansell, for instance. This was the original camera car, it's still got the holes in the bodywork where the camera was attached to it. This one is the sister car to the one that Tony Pond smashed at Knowsley Safari Park. It wasn't run as a works car, but Russell Gooding bought it from Austin Rover and then ran it in the 1984/1985 season and it's now back in the original service colours when it ran in the Lombard RAC in 1985. It took over three years to do a complete nut and bolt restoration of it. It's a good bit of fun for a big car, it's quite a bit of a giggle!"
"It's done various events, like Goodwood Festival of Speed, Stoneleigh Race Retro and stuff like that. It's not used in competition right now, but maybe in the future."
What did you make of today?
"It's a good little circuit and a fun day out there, so it's brilliant. This thing being rear-wheel drive obviously, off the start line, for the first 50 yards it's just spinning all the way up, so you can get a little bit of heat in the tyres, but then through those first esses it starts to understeer a little bit. But this thing, you could kick it out quite easily and put oversteer on it quite easily."
