With the weather warming up, it’s about time to get those coats off, get the P&J out, and enjoy some springtime motori... wait, what’s that? It’s raining? Oh. Well, there’s a surprise. Not to worry, though – grab a cuppa, pull up a chair, and settle back to enjoy our weekly round-up of the biggest news to hit the headlines on PH this week.
The motorsport world is abuzz at the moment, and as a result we’ve had a glut of motorsport-related stories making the news this week. First up,
Katherine Legge
has signed up to drive the DeltaWing along with Andy Meyrick at Laguna Seca; promising news that follows a
difficult start to the year
for the team. Things have been going better for our Caterham Academy winner Dan Livingstone, though, and he's
updated us
this week on his latest exploits. And our Nurburgring correspondent Dale, a man who spends most of his life on track, has been getting the itch for more – this time,
with a competitive bent
Circuit racing hasn’t been the only motorsport to get an airing this week. There’s been a vast amount of Pikes Peak coverage, with all the details on the
Peugeot 208 T16
coming through after a teaser last week. The Pug won’t have things all its own way, though, as Pikes Peak legend ‘Monster’ Tajima will be fighting hard to get his
Toyota Super 86
to the top in the quickest time. Meanwhile, moving from North to South America, the Race2Recovery team were the subject of a
two-part documentary
on TV this week, and closer to home, we heard the news that this year’s
Wales Rally GB
will move to a North Walian location.
Away from the sporting throngs, it’s been a week of unusual cars on PH. First up, Monkey spotted a rather obscure, but nonetheless rather cool
Alfa Romeo 90
in the classifieds, its glovebox briefcase still intact! The oddness continued with the news that Ford will reincarnate
the Escort name
– for a sub-Focus Chinese compact. Who knew Escorts were so popular over there? Perhaps the oddest of all, though, was the
Renaultsport Twizy F1
, a wonderfully barmy concept that features F1-style front and rear wings, sticky rubber and even a KERS boost system. Meanwhile, arguably less odd having been around for decades, but still an unusual sight,
the Unimog
has been renewed once again, and Mercedes this week released the first details. Slightly less heavy duty – in fact, at the other end of the scale weight-wise, was Audi’s one-off
TT Ultra Quattro concept
, which was also unveiled this week.
Range Rover’s new Sport has had its fair share of column inches on PH this week; Nick Gibbs spent some time in Dubai for us getting
the low-down
on the new model, but came away asking whether in fact we’re being conned by
two-tier technology
. We've also heard - quite literally - from the new
Porsche 911 GT3
this week, and boy does it sound good. Meanwhile Dan Prosser’s filed his report on the new
M6 Gran Coupe
. Is it a successful M-car? He’s not convinced. The BMW M3 CSL, however – well, that’s a different kettle of fish, as our
PH Heroes
on the model discussed. Another M3 - an
Imola Individual edition
, to be precise - made it into our Carpool this week, too. And we also brought you the latest in our
Blood Brothers
series, featuring the Volkswagen Golf R and the Audi S3.
been discussing
calls from Norfolk’s new Police and Crime Commissioner to abolish speed limits this week – and he doesn’t fall down on the side of the argument you might think. And in addition to spotting the Alfa 90, he’s also rooted out a
Honda CR-X
that took him back to his youth. Meanwhile, Scrof’s been introducing the latest addition to the PH Fleet – our shiny new (well, sort-of)
