Heading out to the Donington Historic Festival this weekend? We hope so – but keep an eye out for showers if you are! Before you leave, though, why not get yourself in the mood by casting an eye back over the stories that have made the headlines here on PH this week?
Yes, unless you’ve been hiding behind a dune somewhere in the middle of the Gobi Desert you’ll have noticed we’ve had rather a lot of 911 Turbo content on the site this week. It all came about to celebrate the announcement of the
new Turbo
, which came on Friday. And in preparation, we’ve been out to
drive the original
each Turbo model
in chronological order; we’ve dissected the
Turbo marketplace
and found out which suits whom; and we’ve driven one of the 991 Turbo’s freshly-updated rivals, the
Nissan GT-R
. Monkey’s told us all about
his favourite
; one PHer’s told us about his very special
993 Turbo S
while a selection of others have shared
their turbo experiences
, and we’ve even brought you a cut-away look at the 930’s underpinnings to use as
your wallpaper
. So when someone asks you about the new car and its heritage, you’ve all the info you need right here!
When we weren’t talking about old 911s this week, we’ve had a whole host of other retro goodness to share with you. For example, in anticipation of his quick drive in the new
Range Rover Sport
, Dan was let loose first in a series (no pun intended) of
old-school Landies
, as well as a rather special
classic Range Rover
too. Scrof, meanwhile, has been doing his fair share of 70s-flavoured driving by taking the Queen Mother’s
Jaguar XJ12
for a spin. And when we weren’t driving them, we were talking about them, sharing an
Ad Break
on the Celica Supra that was laden with 80s Japanese charm, before Chris Harris explained why
blistered arches
classic BTCC action
also made the site, prompting nostalgia aplenty - and with good reason. And although it wasn’t an old car, the Borrani wheels that were fitted to the rather lovely
Touring Maserati Bellagio
we found for sale lent it a distinctly retro air.
If older cars weren’t entirely your cup of tea, though, we’ve had a few juicy morsels of newer car news this week, too. First up, hot hatches: namely, the new
Golf GTI
, on which Monkey delivered his verdict, just after Volkswagen announced that a
hotter version
could be on its way. Monkey’s also been busy trying out the
Fiesta ST
by asking the question: what would a 205 GTI owner make of it?
Of course, hot hatches weren’t the only new cars on PH this week. We’ve had a plethora of large, fast, and often V8-powered machinery hitting the site this week. Falling firmly into that category is the
Corvette Stingray
, on which prices have been announced this week. Also V8-powered is the
McLaren 12C GT Can-Am Edition
, which had a video devoted to its appearance at Goodwood. McLaren’s F1 engine supplier Mercedes can always be relied upon for a good V8, too, and we’ve had two of those this week, with the news of Monkey’s new
CLS63 AMG
, as well as the sighting of a rather tempting
CLK63 AMG Black Series
in the PH Classifieds. Ferrari V8s have made an appearance, too, in our our
360 Buying Guide
, and it’s a V8 that’s been mooted to power Jaguar’s
upcoming SUV
, an idea that’s creeping ever closer to reality. Don’t fancy a V8? Well, that’s OK, because the V12-endowed
Pagani Zonda S
that Chris drove earlier in the week, should scratch the itch for something larger, while the
Lotus Exige S Roadster
that should be going into production imminently with a 3.5-litre V6 is ideal if you’re after something smaller.
