Renault's making a lot of noise about its
mid-engined Twin'Run
, not least letting it loose with an R5 Turbo and Clio V6
Probably not necessary but good to know it can
As you'll have seen, we celebrated Renault's occasional moments of
mid-engined madness
earlier today off the back of seeing the amusingly bonkers Twin'Run concept at Monaco. And there's no attempt to hide the influence of earlier flirtations with back-to-front hot hatches, or 'bombettes' as the French'll have 'em. Which actually sounds quite cool.
Fair play to Renault too. Most people would make a clay model, bring it to a motor show, dish out some rendered images of it 'driving' and be done with it. But the Twin'Run actually runs, and then some. The team behind it didn't need to base it on a Megane Trophy racer and then take to a test track, slide it around and then replicate Ragnotti's trademark 360s. But they did. Nor did they have to gather together some sulky, pouting girls in a post-apocalyptic scene and race it around against Mad Max'd R5 Turbo and Clio V6 in a vaguely Fast & Furious fashion. But they did that too. There's a little bit of corporate chest beating in the first film and a more than a whiff of fromage about the second. But fair play for actually making a concept that can stand a bit of hooliganism.
