'The next generation of the world's greatest toys' is how Pocket Classics describes its latest range of models, and we'd be inclined to agree. Take the hilarious
original cars Riggers drove
, upgrade the components, add some new bodystyles and, hey presto, the world's greatest toy is reborn.
Start 'em young; here's a good PH dad
Perhaps the most notable tweak is an expanded interior so that, reputedly, an adult and child can ride together. A very small child presumably. The pedal box is also adjustable for the taller driver.
The 2013 range of half-scale cars is now solely powered by the 110cc four-stroke petrol engine with the three-speed semi-auto also carried over. But each Pocket Classic now gets coilover suspension, brake discs from Brembo and a limited-slip differential. Yep, you read that right; these toy cars have proper diffs in them. And moreover, the engines can be tweaked to deliver a top speed in excess of 75mph. YouTube legend status surely awaits the first drifter...
So then, the new models. There's a quadrumvirate of classic sports cars to choose from, starting with the AC Cobra. The quintessential muscle car is the cheapest of the four at £7,995 plus VAT. Next up is a Jaguar XK120, which unfortunately Pocket Classics was unable to provide any photos of. Let's hope it's just as beautiful at 50 per cent of its regular size. The Jag is available from £9,995 plus VAT.
We'll take the red one, please
From infant to adult, haven't we all dreamed of being James Bond at some point? Now those fantasies can be lived out in miniature with the Pocket Classics Aston Martin DB5. Ok, it's a Volante rather than the coupe, but it remains very cool. Treat the kids (or yourself) from £10,995 plus VAT.
Finally, reflecting its status in the real world, the Ferrari 250 California Spider is the priciest of the new models. A faithful replica of one of the most beautiful Ferraris (even if the headlights look a bit large), it costs £12,995 plus VAT.
And if you don't want your precious progeny exposed to the elements, perhaps Stuart Gurr will make another mini 250 GTO for enough cash...
