Towing with serious horsepower is an absolute pleasure. There's none of that dreaded downshifting and managing momentum - you just trim the throttle and maintain speed.
In fact the only downside is keeping within the speed limit.
But how fast can a really powerful posh tractor unit really accelerate? Could it actually out drag a hot-hatch? Time to find out.
Obviously we did this on a test track, but on the road this G63 AMG/Fiesta ST combo is pretty special. You can stay with most normal stuff from 0-40mph and it probably says all you need to know about the AMG's handling to suggest that things aren't much different with a couple of tonnes slung out-back.
Until recently I couldn't tell you what I'd do with a G63, I just knew that I had a slightly regrettable desire to own one. I can now tell you that I would tow with it. It's immensely stable and very fast.
I can also now tell you what I'd do with a Fiesta ST. I'd phone Mountune.
Serious testing will resume sometime soon.
