Given the intense research and Google translating that went on to uncover Suzuki's role in the
entry-level Caterham
, perhaps we should have reached this conclusion ourselves sooner. Alongside the 660cc Seven, Suzuki may resurrect the Cappuccino nameplate for its own diminutive roadster.
This with a bit of Seven DNA could be brilliant
And why not? With a couple of tweaks the Caterham will comply with kei car regulations in Japan so presumably a Suzuki equivalent would also. Plus the original car garnered quite a following when British versions were sold here in the mid-1990s. And whilst this is purely conjecture, it would make sense for a Suzuki version to be cheaper than a Caterham, perhaps with slightly less focused mechanical spec.
Hopefully a 'new Cappuccino' could take all that was good about the Smart Roadster (cute looks, fun handling, 50mpg) whilst improving the bad (the gearbox) and offer another tiny roadster perfect for Britain. The Smart certainly appears more and more relevant with each passing year since production ceased and a spiritual successor to the small Suzuki.
And if these rumours are nothing more than the Photoshopped dreams of a Suzuki fanboy, originals are available in the PH classifieds from £2,495, plus Smart Roadsters for not much more.
