Why are Japanese Super GT cars
so cool
? Before Gran Turismo most of us didn't even know they existed, their status as the most insane, badass cars in the game and wild looks adding to the sense of the exotic.
Lexus will go chasing NSX in Super GT
Though their aero influence has inspired many a bad bodykit and questionable import special there's no denying the wow factor of race prepped NSXs, Skylines, Supras and other 90s heroes, even in pixellated form.
There's also the fact Japanese car manufacturers seem happy to let Super GT representations of concept cars you can't even buy yet take to the track. Various Honda NSXs have competed and today the covers come off the latest racing interpretation of the long-awaited 'new' NSX. And ain't she a beaut? C'mon Honda, enough teasing already. Just give us the real thing!
Lexus has also revealed its 2014 Super GT entrant, again based on a concept. The LF-CC - based on the concept coupe unveiled at last year's Paris show - replaces the existing GT500 SC430 and will race against the Honda next year. It's got something to live up to as well, the SC430 winning the championship in its debut year of 2006 and again in 2009.
The Honda will also race in GT500 and though information on both cars is scant it has been confirmed as running a turbocharged 2.0-litre mid-mounted four-cylinder engine with a 'racing hybrid system'.
