Well, this is interesting. The Bank Holiday weekend saw around a hundred owners of the Mk IV Toyota Supra meet at the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon to mark the car's 20th anniversary. Great news, a very accomplished car still being recognised two decades after its introduction.
Not many left like this anymore!
That the event was supported by Toyota, though, that makes the event more significant. Is it trying to resurrect interest in the Supra nameplate, last seen in Britain 15 years ago, ahead of a new model being announced? Frankfurt would surely be an appropriate stage, and Toyota has made no secret of its intentions to introduce models above and below the GT86. Watch this space...
For now, we have nothing but conjecture around a possible 'new Supra'. Still, the weekend's celebrations do give us an excuse to discuss one of Japan's finest performance cars.
It doesn't have the devastating all-weather pace of a Skyline GT-R or the delicate beauty of an RX-7, but the Supra is fast, engaging and, of course, eminently tuneable; it's a true legend for the Playstation generation. The regard in which the Supra is held can be seen in used prices; this UK-spec manual is £15K.
So enjoy a few pics of the last Supra we've seen in Britain. As soon as PH hears any more on a follow-up, you'll know first!
