The Frankfurt motor show has been inescapable over the past seven days on PH. We’ve had blogs, news stories and interviews from the leviathan expo but also plenty of news from back home too. Chris Harris is already at the Goodwood Revival, our M135i has been battling another rival and we also paid a visit to RM Auctions London sale; it’s all in the motoring week.
Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Frankfurt
'Concept' gives very strong hints to the real thing
PH news has been dominated by that motor show this week. Our
news hub
contains all the big stories but particular highlights for us included the Mercedes
Concept S Class Coupe
Ferrari 458 Speciale
Porsche 918 Spyder
, now of course having recorded
that 6:57 ‘ring lap
Dan’s liveblog gives a great idea of the Frankfurt experience, and his final round-up covers some of the lesser-known stars; it also features a picture of the ghastly Lexus LF-NX which is so bad you’ll want to look.
As far as weird and wonderful goes at Frankfurt, the bizarre Audi Nanuk was a strong entrant from the former category and the 850hp Brabus 850 6.0 iBusiness the latter. The Mansory F12 La Revoluzione is probably a bit of both if we're being kind.
165hp in a Twingo is a lot of fun, yes
Another busy week for all things fast and front-wheel drive this week. Honda continues to taunt us with details on the
Civic Type R
, revealing at Frankfurt that the next car will have a 2.0-litre turbo with 280hp. So it will be ahead of the Megane 265 on power, but can it be more enjoyable? As our
latest M135i vs.
feature has proved, a Renaultsport Megane is a formidable rival in any guise.
Its Twingo baby brother has never quite captured the limelight in the same fashion, with many often citing a lack of power as the issue. Step forward K-Tec’s ‘163’ Twingo, which we compared with the standard 133 on Tuesday.
We’ve also news of two upcoming Hyundai hot hatches based on its burgeoning WRC campaign, plus an update on the PH Fleet BX GTI 16v.
It was this or a Stagea photo here so...
Appropriately enough, Chris Harris’s video this week features the two most talked about hot hatches of 2013; it's the
Fiesta ST versus Clio 200
duel we’ve all been waiting for. Chris is also at the
Goodwood Revival
this weekend, and is updating his progress through a
PH liveblog
We also dropped in on RM Auctions London sale this week, where this rather wonderful Jaguar D-Type was arguably the star despite remaining unsold. For those with budgets that are more B&M than RM, Shed spotted a Nissan Stagea with an exhaust that looks nearly as antisocial as the K-Tec Twingo’s.
Monday’s Carpool featured a BMW 335i Touring, which was apt given Alpina also confirmed its D3 Bi-Turbo this week. 350hp and 52mpg is surely a compelling combination in anyone’s book.
On his return from Frankfurt, Dan added another Germany-based Dream Drive. This one features the fastest road in the world, aka the A5 Autobahn.
And finally, a polite nudge in the direction of the Britcar 1000KM next weekend. There will be a PH contingent at Silverstone, and you can now get £25 off camping too.
