Like it or not, Porsche is poised to sell truck loads of
Macans
a 500m euros investment
in a dedicated factory extension to the Leipzig plant, recruitment of 1,000-plus people to build the things and boasts that the construction project for the above was the biggest in Porsche's history it's clear that resistance is futile.
The view in your mirror, some time next year
The covers officially come off at the LA Auto Show in November but ahead of that 'official' spy photos - a hateful term if ever there was one - preview a disturbing vision of a school run or motorway near you soon where the roads are filled with nothing but Macans.
Apparently based on shared underpinnings with the next-gen Audi Q5, the Macan is at least promised to be "an emotional product" by Leipzig factory boss Siegfried Bulow. Not that he specifies exactly what kind of emotions it'll inspire. For a taste see Autocar's first ride story here.
Anyway, brace yourself because after all the inspiring 'ring lap glory for the 918 Spyder, the 50 years of 911 chest beating and a run of 'proper' products like the 911 GT3 and Turbo, the might of the Porsche hype machine will be turning its back on the sports cars in Stuttgart as the power base shifts inexorably towards Leipzig. Already home to the Cayenne and Panamera, with the Macan coming on stream this will be Porsche's powerhouse and where the money really gets made. Those funny sports car things? Merely garnish.
