Subaru's third-generation Impreza saloon and hatchback were launched in April 2007, with the hot WRX STI revealed in October that year. Big changes saw the Impreza name dropped in Europe whilst the UK received just the five-door hatchback version until 2011. Japanese models kept a 2.0-litre motor whilst the UK and other markets kept the 2.5-litre motor, whose reliability has since been the subject of some discussion.
On the WRX STI the DCCD system was revised with Subaru's Intelligent-Drive (SI-Drive) offering three modes - Intelligent, Sport and Sport#, and numerous Japanese-market and UK limited-editions have since been produced. These include a 2008 20th Anniversary Edition WRX STI, another rally-prep'd WRX STI Spec C, a WRX STI 330S, a WRX STI R205, a Litchfield Type-20 and perhaps most potent of all the Cosworth WRX STI CS400. A limited run of just 75 CS400s were made for the UK market with treats including a 400hp Cosworth-tuned STI engine, bespoke bodywork with Bilstein struts and Eibach springs, AP Racing front brakes with six-piston calipers and Cosworth badging on the lower mesh grille.
