Could there be a more appropriate Time For Tea? than a video celebrating the return of Bentley to top flight racing? We think not. No chipped old mug for this one though - finest bone china, cup, saucer and all the trimmings please.
Ready? Good. The above photo shows Bentley's newly confirmed three-man driving squad of (left to right) Steven Kane, Guy Smith (winner of 2003 Le Mans in the Bentley Speed 8) and Andy Meyrick as they ready themselves for the Continental GT3's debut at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi on December 13 for the Gulf 12 Hours.
Looks the business, sounds pretty good too
It was only yesterday that Chris Harris was enjoying the drive of his life in the
McLaren 12C GT3
and waxing lyrical about the quality and variety in the modern GT3 field. Well, that quality and variety will be enhanced further still with the arrival of the Bentley, no matter that this hulk of a coupe might look somewhat (read, gloriously) incongruous among the McLarens, Porsches, Ferraris and Merc SLSs that currently dominate.
The video details some of the work that's gone into making the Continental GT V8 into a competitive GT3 car, not least the stripping out of a tonne (literally) of luxury fripperies to bring it down to what programme director Brian Gush calls a 'fighting weight' of 1,300kg.
They wouldn't be doing this if the car was going to be wildly off the pace so we'll have to assume the various weights and measures regs have been suitably massaged to give the Bentley Boys a fighting chance. Regardless, it's a magnificent looking machine with a burly V8 and side exhausts. Rule Britannia and all that!
