Though hearing of another Mercedes SLS AMG is always good news, to write about its last iteration is actually rather sad. Despite having only been on sale since 2010, AMG's supercar has left an indelibly positive impression on all who have experienced it. That five different SLS models, plus the GT3 racer, have been made in that time, has probably ensured interest has never waned too much.

Final Edition
, a 'particularly attractive variant of our super sports car' according to Mercedes, will be unveiled with the
S65 AMG
at Tokyo and LA next week. As its name implies, the Final Edition is mechanically identical to the SLS GT, making 591hp from that wonderful 6.2-litre M159 V8.
Merc says the Final Edition is distinguished from the standard GT through an 'exciting combination of truly exceptional design and equipment features'. We're not so sure. The new wheels are reminiscent of those seen on the C63 507 and look quite natty on the coupe, but rather too 'tuner' on the roadster. The same can probably be said for the carbon bonnet, which just looks rather incongruous on the open car. The interior will most likely have a few alterations too, but there haven't been any pics of that yet.
There will be 350 Final Editions, but the split between coupe and Roadster hasn't yet been confirmed. Expect to pay for the privilege of nabbing the last SLS models. For reference, the standard GT coupe is £165,030 and the Roadster £176,985. Or, if you're willing to accept a car with a couple of thousand miles, rather a lot less... Full details to follow from the shows next week!
