Tuesday, 1700h, Ascari Race Resort and in the Aventador
Sadly that wonderful Diablo GT shown yesterday will remain a static display and not hooned round Ascari. Still, a quick couple of laps in an Aventador are not to be sniffed at!
The 'hot lap' cars are probably best described as eclectic, with your allocated car dependent on simply what's available. Between Camaro convertible and SLS GT3, there is a KTM X-Bow, Audi R8 V10 and some race-prepped 350Zs. And the matt black Aventador, loitering with intent at the end of the pits.
After being forced to sign a rather lengthy disclaimer which made little sense, we were out on track. I forgot to ask the name if my driver but he couldn't have been more Italian; aviators on the second he stepped from the car, fabulously patinated Sparco gloves and tricolore helmet. Very cool.
Even on a track as accommodating as Ascari, the Aventador feels big It seems to turn in nicely but you can never escape the feeling if so much mass sat behind you. The changes really thump through in Corsa mode and the speed is intoxicating, but it didn't seem to feel entirely in its element on track. But when it sounds and looks as it does, such criticisms of the Aventador seem rather churlish don't they?
