In the absence of being able to drive either of them due to each being already sold out (damn!) we're instead left in thrall to Ferrari and McLaren's publicity machines for a taste of LaFerrari and the P1. The PR direction taken by the latter with bizarre boasts of a record-breaking Nordschleife lap but no actual mention of the time itself has prompted
plenty of discussion
And a video
. And more debate off the back of it.
Although LaFerrari has been seen at the 'ring Ferrari is far too snooty to be dragged into this vulgar manhood measurement contest, earning itself cool points for shrugging away the fuss with an implied 'we sold them all, why would we need to prove anything?' shrug.
Instead it's released a video of LaFerrari mixing with LaGlitterati and taking part in the Art Basel Miami exhibition. It's 'one of the most important events on the international cultural and artistic calendar' apparently. What, you didn't already know? Tsk. Anyway, while others were fixating over stopwatches in the middle of a German forest LaFerrari has been offered up as a static art exhibit surrounded by champagne sipping millionaires.
But here's the rub. Funny business over the lap time or not, McLaren's video showed the P1 airborne over the kerbs into Fuchsrore and laying down fat black lines in four-wheel drifts out of Adenauer Forst - truly visceral, thrilling stuff even clouded in a PR smokescreen. And while we know attending exclusive lifestyle events surrounded by skinny women in expensive dresses is probably a more accurate representation of a true supercar's lot we know what we'd rather see.
And what's this - an amusing and pithy YouTube user comment that actually made us 'LOL' too? Had to happen one day. 'One amazing automobile' says ThundaCat305. 'One s**t drawing though.' replies RNRS001. Nice.
