All rally-spec Escorts are becoming hugely desirable cars at auction now, particularly the super rare RS1800s. Add some McRae family provenance to the mix and you can see why 'LSV171' has got potential bidders so excited.
The 1977 Stobart liveried car will be sold by Silverstone Auctions at its Race Retro event on Saturday February 22 with an estimate of between £65,000 and £85,000. The McRae link is actually quite recent, the car being tested by Colin and taken to victory by Jimmy on the 2006 Roger Clark Rally and Alister on a memorial rally for his brother. This car also won the pre-1981 category of the 2007 British Historic Championship with Jimmy at the wheel. After being rebuilt in 2009, it has been raced in Majorca recently by current owner Jim Whelan.
It has its Historic Rally Vehicle Identity Form plus tax and MOT until May so is ready to go in 2014. Go on, you know you want to... Unsure? See the videos below!
Even though the auction is a couple of months away, the lot list has some wonderful cars in already. How about a one-owner Lotus Elan Sprint or an Alfa Giulia race car?
