It's not often, if ever, that Simon Cowell deserves thanks from the motoring community. But today is that day as Caterham Cars will now officially be sold in the US with everyone's favourite music mogul partly to do with it.
Cowell has one, now all the US does
When Cowell had a Seven CSR 260 delivered to his LA home in 2013 it caused a lot of excitement Stateside. Getting a Seven legal in America has always been a bit of a faff because of the strict federal homologation rules so they're even rarer than over here. Cowell's appearance in one 'increased American interest in the legendary British sports car', so now Caterham had teamed up with Superformance (the guys behind the
Daytona
coupe) to be officially sold in the US.
Though we're told 'a range' of Seven models will be offered, the more powerful versions have been most popular in America until now and are expected to be the best sellers. It would seem 'no replacement for displacement' even extends to tiny roadsters in the US...
Therefore, the new Seven 485 and 620R are the models Caterham will be pushing. The cars will be shipped across the Atlantic in part-built form, with Superformance selling the kits for customers to complete at home.
