Well this is bold. Following the
Autobiography Dynamic Evoque
shown at Geneva, Land Rover has further upped its performance ante with an uber
Range Rover Sport
. Hopefully the mooted RS tag can remain too, just so the car can be referred to as the RRS RS.
Anyway, what to expect? Land Rover will be utilise the 550hp variant of the supercharged 5.0 V8 to power the RS, 40hp on the standard supercharged car and of course also found in the
Jag XFR-S
F-Type R
. Fingers crossed it sounds like the latter.
Even discounting the, erm, distinctive camo seen on this car, it's clear the flagship Sport will be easy to identify from a V6 diesel. That thunderous V8 has additional intakes at the front and what appear to be bigger exhausts out the back. Suspension tweaks means it sits a little lower than standard as well. Sitting behind some rather aftermarket looking rims are blue Brembo calipers, implying improved stopping performance.
There's nothing seen of the interior just yet, but the same lavish appointments from the standard Sport will most likely make it across. Perhaps some different seats will be dropped in along with some appropriately sporty trim options.
Hardly slipping under the radar...
Question their legitimacy all you will but the popularity of mega SUVs simply won't abate. The 550hp Range Rover Sport will compete against the
Mercedes ML63 AMG
, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, BMW X5 M, all packing over 500hp and more than two tonnes of mass. Will Audi join the fray soon?
It has been suggested the RS will go on sale early next year. But then the New York show is next month, and we all know what Land Rover did there in 2013 with the standard Sport... More news as it arrives.
