With Jonathan Rea a surprise pole position at Imola, could the Honda man convert it to another race win? Or would the Blade's lack of top speed see him struggle against the Kawasakis and Aprilias?
That's now three in a row for Rea
Race one and a fast start saw Rea take the lead with Guintoli and Melandri right behind him until the Frenchman overran a corner on the first lap. And was that a Ducati in third place? Could Italy finally prove a turning point in the Panigale's fortunes?
Having built up a healthy lead by mid-race, Rea was looking good for the win while behind him Sykes and Davies were battling for the other podium spots and Guintoli was looking unusually ragged in fourth. A few laps later the Frenchman calmed down and slipped through into second place.
With Rea taking a clear win, Davies secured second and Sykes third for an all Brit podium after Guintoli faded badly towards the end of the race.
And it's off to Donington next!
Race two and could Rea make it three on the bounce? Another rocket start saw Jonathan take the lead while Guintoli was in second and hoping to not encounter the same tyre issues that ruined his first race.
Rea took another flag to flag win with Davies an excellent second and Guintoli third. So that's almost another all-Brit podium...
The supersport race was one to forget for the Brits with both Kennedy and Coghlan crashing out of contention. The race was won by Zanetti with Kennedy remounting to finish 11th and Rogers 16th.
