Muscle cars are getting serious. Very serious. Following in the (305 all round) tyre tracks of the
Chevy Camaro Z/28
is the latest Dodge Challenger SRT. Just in case the
new Mustang
thought it would have things all its own way.
You need to know about the engine. It's called Hellcat for a start, possibly the best name for an engine in ever. A power output of 'over 600hp' from Dodge's first supercharged Hemi is quoted, with more than 90 per cent of the new 6.2 changed over the 392 Hemi. You'll hear it makes a suitably angry noise too.
There's a whole host of new tech for the Challenger as well, which the guys from SRT are clearly very chuffed about. From the extra wind tunnel hours to the red key that unlocks full performance a la Veyron, they are understandably very proud of their work. "This is not a car for everyone" is the video's opening line, a single-mindedness that's really refreshing. Our inner drag racer really rather wants one.
